We have our little buddha belly!

video

We are now a family of four!!! Yes, Kai Bingwen Morgan joined our family at 10:00 this morning. It was a very chaotic and frenzied process, but at least now he is ours! The very small room was filled four families....three of us with additional children, all showing varying degrees of emotion. Kai showed some obvious signs of grieving as he cried while looking around the room (poor little guy!). As you can tell from the photos posted however, he was a smiling happy-go-lucky kid when we finally got him back to the room and got his clothes off (typical guy! :). Seriously, when he was handed over to us he was padded in dirty clothing with his soiled daiper-derierre hanging out. By the time process was done, he had diarrhea leaking out of his diaper and all over, which we tried to contain so as to keep from contaminating anyone or anything. When we got back to the hotel room, we took his clothing and diaper off and put him right into the bathtub. He seemed to enjoy the feeling of being clean and sitting on the bed in "all his glory". As he looked at his arms and legs....moved them around and started looking up to the sky, he beamed a huge smile while laughing aloud as if to say "free at last!"

We are amazed at how chunky Kai's belly and legs are, and how tiny his hands and feet seem to be. He's kind of like a little linebacker! He shows some obvious motor delays, and is really functioning at about a 12 month old level (this we anticipated due to early deprivation and malnutrition. It is pretty typical for kids from orphanages, especially poorer ones). We're trying a "do-it-yerself" PT program in our hotel room, but we're pretty sure he'll need quite intense OT and PT once he is home.

Jade isn't quite sure what to think. I think she likes the IDEA of being a big sister, but isn't quite ready to give up all the glory. This was evident as she went into a major tantrum right at bedtime (as mommy was giving Kai his bottle.) Tomorrow is another day!

Kai's personality? He's really quite silly yet likes to cuddle. He seems easy-going and likes to laugh, but will not hesitate to use his strong set of lungs to express disapproval of something. Interestingly, he is a lot like a child who is experiencing so many things for the FIRST TIME. That is overwhelming for a little guy!!! We'll keep you posted of how things progress here.

Signing off to try getting some rest! It has been a big day. Tomorrow we'll visit Kai's orphanage.....

Oh my! What a couple of cuties you have! Love the rolls on his sweet legs. I can't imagine the confusion he and Jade must be feeling, but I know they'll come through it just fine, having watched the two of you parent not so long ago. Thanks for sharing!

Dear Morgans-CONGRATULATIONS! Kai is so stinkin' cute! He looks quite happy too. It is so awesome that you never lost faith that he was your son. Your calls to LWB probably saved his little life. What a miracle he is! Jade seems to be loving being the big sister and playing with her Didi. The videos are so sweet-major bonding happening there! I am so happy and excited for you all. Thanks for the pics and keeping us up to date. Love your blog!! GREAT music! Enjoy the rest of your trip and keep us posted on your Fab 4 adventures!!! Love-Jeannie

What a bundle of joy! Love the videos. Read your itinerary and wonder what time you hit Milwaukee? It is such a long journey home. Hopefully you don't arrive at midnight.

Our first referral picture (approx 9 months of age)...no, he's not a girl! The SWI folks must have run out of male clothing! He's GOT to have character!!!
